Mothers Who Disgust Me

Posted by Suzy Athey on Friday, February 25, 2011, In : Thoughts/Blog/Articles

After reading an article in The Sun yesterday, I felt enraged and figured I’d channel my anger into a blog.  I tried to write it one way and then another but I figured the only way I can truly convey my feelings is to write the blog using fictional people but an actual scenario. All my thoughts and feelings are from the heart.

Jennifer was a really good friend of mine.  She wa...

Dear Nan

Posted by Suzy Athey on Wednesday, February 23, 2011, In : Thoughts/Blog/Articles

Dear Nan

I find myself thinking of you a lot of late so I thought I would drop you a little note.  I keep remembering all the times we spent together, all the funny things you did and the little adventures we got up to.  I thought I’d jog your memory as I thought it might make you smile.

My earliest memories of you are spending time with you on a Sunday morning and afternoon...

The Love of my Life

Posted by Suzy Athey on Wednesday, February 23, 2011, In : Thoughts/Blog/Articles
For You....

You are the love of my life and there is no feeling quite like being so in love with you.  Although quite possibly, the fact that you love me back just how I have always wanted to be loved, could just even it out.

I reflect on my life and I see so many mistakes I have made.  Things I have done that I wish I hadn’t and things I would like to change.  I sometimes beat myself up...

Starstruck

Posted by Suzy Athey on Sunday, February 20, 2011, In : Stories

I came across the advert and it was by no means by chance.

“Magnus Film Studios looking for an assistant to work full time.  Please click the attachments at the bottom of this advert to view the full job description and person specification”.

Before clicking the attachments, I did a quick google search, although I already knew that Magnus has just signed Carter Cortez fo...

A Dish Best Served Cold (A Story) 18+ Content

Part One

Everyone has an embarrassing moment in their life that they wish had never happened and failing that, wish they could forget. Most of us can take these memories and either cringe or laugh. I however had never got over mine and I neither laughed nor cringed for many years.

Miami Senior High School meant to be the best years of your life. And for the most part I enjoyed school. I wasn’t a cheerleader, far from it but nor was I a nerd. I kind of slotted in somewhere in ...

Living Again (A Story)

Posted by Suzy Athey on Friday, February 18, 2011, In : Stories
‘Let’s set some ground rules first’ I muttered to myself. I have never been a fan of technology and the wonders of the internet but Sheila, my rather eccentric work colleague and friend had been prattling on at me for weeks to get myself ‘online’. So with my quarterly bonus, I brought myself a little lap top which was apparently a bargain at half the price. Hmm not so sure about that I have to say, imagine how many pairs of shoes I could have been wearing right now.

Family Values

Posted by Suzy Athey on Friday, February 18, 2011, In : Thoughts/Blog/Articles
As a child I was raised to respect adults and teachers. Don't get me wrong, at times, I was a little monkey - not so much naughty but I had too much to say for myself. It was always 'Suzy talks to much' or 'Suzy has an answer for everything'. But as I said I was raised correctly, never broke the law, even though fellow classmates were often out 'nicking' from the shops on a Saturday and I knew who I should respect.

My kids are pretty good kids. Luke my eldest who is 12 is exactl...

Meltdown (A Story)

Posted by Suzy Athey on Friday, February 18, 2011, In : Stories
I stand there looking at you and you absolutely disgust me. I cannot fathom where it all went so wrong. What did I do? Why has it turned out this way?

I stand there lost in thought staring at you, remembering my whole life and seeing snippets flash through my mind.

I worked so hard all my life and strived to be the best I could be. I didn’t have it easy at school, I wasn’t the most naturally academic person I knew and everything I studied I had to study at twice as hard as an...

Poetry - Part Five

Posted by Suzy Athey on Friday, February 18, 2011, In : Poetry
Last lot up to date.........

Tranquillity

Riding on horseback, the wind in my hair
Looking for wildlife that I know is there
Hearing the sound of the birds merry song
This is truly where I belong

Patting the neck of the stallion I ride
The soft velvet touch, of his silky hide
Feeling the sun beat down upon me
This is truly where I want to be

The rhythmic patter of hooves on the ground
The gentle swaying of trees all around
Stopping to see the scene; I’m in awe
This is truly what I love, for sure

Tying m...

Poetry - Part Four

Posted by Suzy Athey on Friday, February 18, 2011, In : Poetry
More...............

Judgement

Everyone is judging me because I’ve gone on strike
From children to adults and the Government alike
I took the role as fireman, it was my childhood dream
But it isn’t really glamorous, although this is how it’s seen
I want to be saving lives, not on a picket line
Waving all the banners and heavy wooden signs
I’ve heard the nasty comments, I hear what people say
But is it really so bad that I ask for a bit more pay
We only work four days a week, you think this is gr...

Poetry - Part Three

Moving On

I think of her with you holding you tight
She is the one who is kissing you goodnight
You may say its over, but still you haven’t parted
Like you promised since this has started
I can’t cope any longer without having you near
Only seeing you a few times a year
At first it was easy I have to confess
I thought I could handle being your second best
I’ve made a decision about me and you
Tell her its over or honey we’re through
I know you’ll be shocked and beg me to stay
But I’...

Poetry - Part Two

Posted by Suzy Athey on Friday, February 18, 2011, In : Poetry
Another batch of my poetry, again written mainly in 2002

Cruel World

Picture a mother waving goodbye to her son
Will she see him again when it is all done

His very last smile she keeps locked in her heart
She won’t think the worst or it will tear her apart

He walked into the distance in clothes all of green
She remembered fondly how his buttons did gleam

She used to sit and worry as any mother would
He pledged to do his duty the best way that he could

At first he wrote her every day from road, air or...

Poetry - Part One

Posted by Suzy Athey on Friday, February 18, 2011, In : Poetry
I thought I would post my poetry on here for you to have a read of, mostly written in 2002.  Let me know what you think, what you like best and which doesn't do it for you:

If I (Version One)

If I told you I wanted you
Would you still walk away
Or gather me in your arms
And tell me you’d stay

If I told you I needed you
Would you listen and hear
And not walk away with
Your heart filled with fear

If I told you I dreamed of you
Would you look in my eye
Stand beside me with
Your head held high

If I to...

School or Prison

Posted by Suzy Athey on Friday, February 18, 2011, In : Thoughts/Blog/Articles
The last week or so has showed me that schools nowadays are on a power trip, akin to prisons. When did schools stop becoming a learning institution and become a place to lock up children? The main story focuses on my friends son Brian and his experience of school with some extra stories about my own son and one of his friends.

Brian was in art class and was asked by Liam if he could borrow his pencil sharpener. Brian took the sharpener over to Liam and although the next is a lit...

Football - A Mans Game?

Posted by Suzy Athey on Friday, February 18, 2011, In : Thoughts/Blog/Articles
Andy Gray has been sacked for 'inappropriate behaviour' which consists of, if I have read this correctly, commenting on a female referees ability to understand the offside rule and her appearance. And asking a fellow female presenter to 'tuck this in' referring to a microphone by his waist.

I am so irate about all this that I figured I would write about it!

I worked in football for about four years, back when I left school. The club was obviously full of men, the women being the ...

Solving the Crime

Posted by Suzy Athey on Friday, February 18, 2011, In : Thoughts/Blog/Articles
It was about 8.30pm last night (Sunday) when David (my partner) got a call from his ex wife Louise telling us that their son Brodys bike had been stolen. Brody had been playing at his friends house and his bike was parked in the back garden, inside the gate of the rather posh house. The parents of Brodys friend were not too bothered about the fact a 300 pound bike had been stolen but I guess when you have money of that proportion, it isn't an issue to replace anything. Anyway I ...

Starting School - The Lower Site

Posted by Suzy Athey on Friday, February 18, 2011, In : Thoughts/Blog/Articles
Well it is a few weeks before my eldest son Luke starts secondary school for the first time. I think I am more excited about it than he is. I feel like it is me about to venture into the big school all over again. Obviously, I cannot and would not want to, live Luke's life for him but it hasn't stopped me remembering my senior school so I thought what a good idea for a blog......memories of school.

I remember the first day of Seven Kings High School Lower Site. My Mum took me th...

Eden Lake or Frensham Pond

Posted by Suzy Athey on Friday, February 18, 2011, In : Thoughts/Blog/Articles
A month or so ago, I watched a film called Eden Lake. I enjoyed the film and feel it is quite topical so thought I would share my thoughts on the film. It also happened to be filmed at a place I spent a lot of my childhood at. So flashbacks to childhood may encroach on the film analysis.

I am a sucker for a horror or thriller movie and when I saw Eden Lake at the Market, it sounded my cup of tea, so we got it.

It opens with the main charachters Jenny and Steve, driving out for a r...

The Famous Ones

Posted by Suzy Athey on Friday, February 18, 2011, In : Thoughts/Blog/Articles
I have been, some may say, lucky enough to meet a selection of celebrities over the years and have, for some reason been thinking about those I have met today, so I thought I would share my stories. After all, I have written two quite opinionated blogs so thought a light hearted one would be a welcome relief.

I started work in my first job at Leyton Orient FC and of course, not many Orient players are big super stars but over the years we had a few celebs grace the corridors of ol...

The Death Penalty

Posted by Suzy Athey on Friday, February 18, 2011, In : Thoughts/Blog/Articles
My initial interest in this subject started when I was in my last year at school where I had to find a captivating topic for my English Oral Exam. My mum told me about the case of Derek Bentley and Christopher Craig whom in the course of a burglary, murdered a police officer. Bentley was tried under 'joint enterprise' and found guilty even though it was Craig who pulled the trigger. It took 45 years for Bentley to win a posthumous pardon but in my opinion it was 45 years too lat...

John Venables

Posted by Suzy Athey on Friday, February 18, 2011, In : Thoughts/Blog/Articles
The name may ring more than alarm bells in many peoples heads and being as he is once again back in the news, I feel the need to share my opinion. I would like those of you who do not know me, to understand, I am the least judgemental person I know so this blog came as a surprise, even to me.
I was just 18 when the then child, Venables and his accomplice Thompson, lured an innocent child away from his mother in Merseyside. Many have claimed this was not a premeditated killing but ...
